Mini session: 2 for 2:30pm (class is 1 hour and finishes at 3:30pm). You are free to continue writing after the class, and to eat, drink and chill in the space.

This Coffee and Calligraphy is an informal calligraphy get together where there is no pressure of a formal lesson, no calligraphy experience needed and you can come kuier, write, try out, watch, bring your pens and journals. Learn some calligraphy, get social have some coffee!!

We will wire up our pencils, sosatie sticks, and try out some pens (I will have these for you to try) and practice flourishes. We will be using coffee as ink!

Practicing flourishes gives you good pen control and prepares you for cursive, modern calligraphy and more. Great for making cards and decorating your journals.

Dress code

Please wear comfortable clothes that don’t mind a coffee stain or two!

Materials / What must I bring with?

Please bring a pencil, a fine liner and some paper. If you have journal, fountain pen, pointed pen and/or oblique pen holder (or anything else) please bring these. I will have some pens for you to try and some you can purchase after the workshop if you would like.

What equipment I need to buy to start calligraphy?

In all my classes, I will show you exactly what you need and why. Each class gives a list of the supplies or materials which may be needed or recommended. Don’t fall into the trap of buying lots of equipment you don’t need or will never use. It’s expensive. In lots of my beginners classes, I supply all the equipment so that you can try out without having to buy anything. I also try and curate exactly what you need to help you through this.

How long does it take to learn calligraphy?

Calligraphy is a life-long learning journey. You can get going pretty quickly, and then just keep practicing by making things and giving them away. You do need to practice, but I don’t believe in repeating letters over and over. You learn much faster by actually doing. I will help you to make Calligraphy part of your life and not a time frame!

What is your cancellation policy?

If due, to unforeseen circumstances, we have to cancel a class you will be refunded or given the option to move the booking to a future class of your choice. If you need to cancel a class it works as follows: if you cancel 48 hours in advance – 100% refund; 24 hours in advance – 50% refund, on the day of the workshop – no refund.
