First Thursdays: Coffee and Calligraphy – Italic Patterns

In this short 1 hour session we’ll show you how to write Italic patterns.
Coffee and Calligraphy is an informal calligraphy get together where there is no pressure of a formal lesson, and people without calligraphy experience can come kuier, write, try out, bring your pens ask questions and learn the basics of a calligraphy script.
In this short 1 hour session we’ll show you how to write Italic patterns with coffee ink and a coffee stirrer. Patterns are the training ground of calligraphy – I’ll show you how simple movements and repeating patterns cab be transformed into letters and words. When you play with a pen on paper, you learn how calligraphy centres and balances your mind. Concentrating on strokes have this funny way of transporting you out of the digital in to the analogue. Calligraphy shows you how to live in the moment, be positive and find creativity.

Please wear comfortable clothes that don’t mind a coffee or ink stain or two!
Materials / What must I bring with?
We will provide coffee ink, coffee stirrers and a few sheets of paper to work on. Please bring some additional A4 paper if you would like. If you have a journal, fountain pen, or any broad pen (or anything else) you would like to try, you are welcome to bring these along. I will have some pens for you to try and some you can purchase after the workshop if you would like.
