Please wear comfortable clothes that don’t mind an ink stain or two!

Materials / What must I bring with?

Notes and some materials will be provided
You will need:
1. Ruler
2. Pencil
3. Glue Stick
4. Black Fine liner
5. Scissors
6. Either a Calligraphy koki, Calligraphy fountain pen or your calligraphy nibs – 2mm or wider. We will write with a 2mm nib.
7. Paper: layout or printer paper to practice on plus watercolour weight paper – upwards of 110gsm for your journal pieces
8. You need one type of colour medium; watercolours/gel pen/ pencil crayons (we will work with what you have but choose 3 of your favourite colours and bring those). If you bring paint, don’t forget a brush

Optional:

An art journal that can take ink, paint, colour (don’t buy one – if you would like to bring yours then you do not need the watercolour paper above)
Please bring any of your favorite pens and equipment not listed above

Remember: PNA stock the full supply list, so you can pick up anything you need in store. If you don’t have, or aren’t sure don’t worry, I will be happy to guide you.

What equipment I need to buy to start calligraphy?

In all my classes, I will show you exactly what you need and why. Each class gives a list of the supplies or materials which may be needed or recommended. Don’t fall into the trap of buying lots of equipment you don’t need or will never use. It’s expensive. In lots of my beginners classes, I supply all the equipment so that you can try out without having to buy anything. I also try and curate exactly what you need to help you through this.

How long does it take to learn calligraphy?

Calligraphy is a life-long learning journey. You can get going pretty quickly, and then just keep practicing by making things and giving them away. You do need to practice, but I don’t believe in repeating letters over and over. You learn much faster by actually doing. I will help you to make Calligraphy part of your life and not a time frame!

What is your cancellation policy?

If due, to unforeseen circumstances, we have to cancel a class you will be refunded or given the option to move the booking to a future class of your choice. If you need to cancel a class it works as follows: if you cancel 48 hours in advance – 100% refund; 24 hours in advance – 50% refund, on the day of the workshop – no refund.
